Welcome to the ILGE Website!!

These are challenging days for everyone, especially given all the economic turmoil and dis-enchantment with today's leaders. Executives, governmental officials, and managers at all levels are being questioned more than ever on what they are doing to bring turnaround and signficant helpful change to avoid the disasters engulging their organizations, communities, and nation states. We must do something about this.......and do something differently than what we have been doing in the past. I think we can.......and we should!!

An executive recently approached me after a talk and said: "John, I feel like quitting. No matter what I do, my people are unwilling to work at their capable levels and best. What can I do?" That personal note sank deeply in......and I think it is time for us all to do a sincere "leadership reality check".......and time to let go of the buzz words and the nonsense being bandied around these days on our global crises and overly simplified statements being made about "leadership" and false solutions to today's crises.

 

To begin with, the hard facts must be faced ....including evidence that of our own and other's international studies which indicate that:

•The average tenure of CEOs has dropped to a new low level of 2-3 years with burnout tendency now at 85%,

•an average of 83% of employees are NOT engaged with their work and the problem isn’t getting better;

•1/3- 1/2 are seeking employment elsewhere with the price-tag on these two issues alone reaching billions of dollars;

•95% or higher of strategic plans or organization-wide initiatives such as TQM, ISO-9000, six-sigma, balanced scorecard, etc. are never successfully implemented, nor produce substantial long-term improvements in productivity or profitability;

• 95% or higher of money invested in training or executive education programs today is wasted since there is lack of any evidence to support that these programs have any significant impact on leader or employee long- term performance,

•the source of these problems – weak leadership skills and competencies. Most executives and managers today tend to micro- manage, get bogged down with task-saturation, fall victim to tunnel vision, do not inspire change and development of their people, are well-intentioned, but lack the leadership skills and a strategic approach that can free them up. Most have neglected the development of the proper mind-set, skills, and competencies to be both productive and effective.

THE COSTS: "Billions of dollars being wasted, diminished profit levels, reduced productivity and quality, poor morale, absenteeism and turnover, higher levels of stress, conflicts, and burnout."

It Can Be Different. I am convinced that unless we are willing to invest and put our own personal time, effort, and soul into bringing a turnaround and transformation in our day to day lives, today's problems will continue to get worse, and we will soon be forgotten. The hallmark of a great leader is one who sees two major agendas: (1) the need for their own personal transformation, change and development, and (2) being successful at getting inside the head of their people and rallying them to achieve recognition at the "winner's circle" - nothing less.
