Welcome to our NEW ILGE WEBSITE!!

Thanks for taking the time to read this welcome note.......and looking forward to keeping a close connect with you and others. These are the days when engagement, transformation and continuous improvement are in the air, and let's see how we can support that together. We at ILGE invite you to join us here , and help shape a new exciting future before us by exchanging  ideas, dreams, reflections, and suggestions on how to move beyond these days of disenchantment and cynicism. This site is yours for engagement, discussion, and spirited exchange of ideas, so we are inviting you to do share those.  We at ILGE have undergone some very exciting changes in the last several months, including the launching of our new membership website here.

In the backdrop, we can see the challenges ahead, especially given all the economic turmoil and continued frustration people are having with their leaders.    Executives,    governmental officials, and managers at all levels are being questioned more than ever. We all want to see some real courage, and enlightenedd stewardship of our institutions and our ways of life. "Talk is cheap" as they say and I am a firm believer in what the people of the State of Missouri claim as their State motto - "Show me!!"  We need leaders believing that same thing.........and that includes YOU!!   In that spirit, I say why don't we really  do   something     about the situation you find yourself in.....whatever that might be and contemplate a new direction.  It is time to abandon cynicism, fatalism, and the blaming culture and become "leaders"" - agents and facilitators of change.  I think you can do that.....do you??

Not long ago, during a recent program when we were having a break, a concerned executive approached me quietly and mentioned: "John, what you are saying is great, but right now I am really depressed......I feel like quitting.  Everything I try to do to get my people engaged, doesn't seems to work.  What can I do?"  Others listening nearby came up and affirmed:  Yes, we all feel the same way....but don't give up.  I think each of us in our own way must own up to the hard facts about our circumstances.....and admit that we are a long-way off from where we want to be.  It all begins I think with an admission of our frustrations...our failures....but also then a willingness to ask ourseslves how can we do something about this.  That is the first step on the pathway to true leadership development.....and the ultimate pathway that each of us must take for significant, enduring change to occur.  The time now is ripe for a   "leadership reality check".......and I invite you to work with me on doing that, each in our own way and in our own circumstances. Also, enough of the buzz words and the nonsense being bandied around these days on "leadership" and simplistic solutions coming forth about improving our organizations, our global crises, and what is the "good life".   These are tough times, and times requiring a noble effort, wizened by new knowledge and boldness tempered by humility. What do you think??

To start some discussion off,  let's step back a minute and review the hard facts that we leaders must face irst if we are to initiate positive changes.  iEvidence is arising from varied circules, inlcluding our own and other's international studies which indicate that:

The average tenure of CEOs has dropped to a new low level of 2-3 years with burnout tendency now at 85%,
•an average of 83% of employees are NOT engaged with their work and the problem isn’t getting better;
•1/3- 1/2 are seeking employment elsewhere with the price-tag on these two issues alone reaching billions of dollars;
•95% or higher of strategic plans or organization-wide initiatives such as TQM, ISO-9000, six-sigma, balanced scorecard, etc. are never successfully implemented, nor produce substantial long-term improvements in productivity or profitability;
• 95% or higher of money invested in training or executive education programs today is wasted since there is lack of any evidence to support that these programs have any significant impact on leader or employee long- term performance,
•the source of these problems – weak leadership skills and competencies. Most executives and managers today tend to micro- manage, get bogged down with task-saturation, fall victim to tunnel vision, do not inspire change and development of their people, are well-intentioned, but lack the leadership skills and a strategic approach that can free them up. Most have neglected the development of the proper mind-set, skills, and competencies to be both productive and effective.

It Can Be Different. I am convinced that unless we are willing to invest and put our own personal time, effort, and soul into bringing a turnaround and transformation in our day to day lives, today's problems will continue to get worse, and we will soon be forgotten. The hallmark of a great leader is one who sees two major agendas: (1) the need for their own personal transformation, change and development, and (2) being successful at getting inside the head of others and rallying them to move forward with confidence, commitment, and willingness to not give up.   There is no reason why we cannot strive to be a part of the  "winner's circle"  as part of our goals, so let's venture on.

You Have a Choice.   Are You Willing to Be Part of the Solution,...... or Continue as Being Part of the Problem? If your dream is to leave a legacy behind yourself as a leader, please read on. We here at ILGE are committed to support those "leaders", or those "aspiring leaders" in all walks of life, from all continents of the world, and organizations of all sizes, shapes, and notions to put their minds, heats and souls into the agenda. Please join us.
